one who owes allegiance,\u00a0
and is therefore entitled to protection.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

A citizen.\u00a0
Pledge allegiance to the flag,
league or commission,
knowing that cisness
means entitlement to competition.
If gender identity matches certificate of birth,
Better suit up! In their eyes you have worth.\u00a0
You can focus on your game
and mold your craft,
\u201cstick to sports\u201d,
even perfect your autograph.
When \u201cball is life\u201d
each day may be a grind,
and if gender fits the script,
the game can dominate your mind.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Meanwhile\u2026\u00a0
trans athletes await
as officials sit and debate
if their status as humans\u00a0
should let them cross home plate.
Clubs and boards fret about funding,
and do everything they can
to keep Lindsay Hecox from running.\u00a0
They cite \u201cfairness\u201d, \u201csafety\u201d, and \u201cintegrity\u201d,
as if hyping women up\u00a0
isn\u2019t something of rarity.\u00a0
Aim to keep the binary at all costs
even if that means\u00a0
so much talent is lost.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Fear runs all
and preserves the status quo
so states like Tennessee
can stop the next Patricio.\u00a0
Where\u2019s the logic
in claiming fairness is dealt,
when they\u2019re the very ones
supplying blows below the belt?
Texas ain\u2019t Cali\u00a0
Mack\u2019s begs fell short,
so all his state titles
deemed wins to abort.\u00a0
Fighting each day just to play the game
but they\u2019re all stuck on still debating your name.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Inclusion\u2019s better
but not a perfect solution,
when inclusion still means
checking hormone distribution.\u00a0\u00a0
The issue isn\u2019t really about you and me,
it\u2019s about the assumptions plaguing our society.
The system believes\u00a0
that men are always better
but if a woman tries to challenge\u00a0
no way they\u2019re gonna let her.\u00a0
They see gender\u00a0
as black or white,
they say any other view
isn\u2019t worth the fight.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

They see anomaly\u00a0
and hone right in,
boost views they support
like those of Caitlyn Jen.\u00a0
They say, \u201cSee, look!
I\u2019m not transphobic\u201d,
as if banning hopeful athletes\u00a0\u00a0
is somehow heroic.\u00a0
Industries\u2019 bigotry\u00a0
outweighs social advancement,
they give more grace to using\u00a0
performance enhancements.\u00a0
I guess their greed might have a limit,
\u2018cause transactions\u00a0
involving trans action
they\u2019ll always prohibit.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

So Siri, let\u2019s talk.
Can you tell me again?
Is an athlete a citizen,
as long as they try to win?
If loyal and devoted,
shouldn\u2019t they be protected?
Or is citizenship for athletes
exclusively selected?\u00a0
At the end of the day,
we all just want to belong
so how come trans athletes\u2019\u00a0
belonging is so prolonged?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
