I gaze at the Abyss also gazing<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>And trying not to become what I see.<br \/><br \/>Your body was dust and into dust it has returned. <br \/><br \/>Now I can hear the stones singing <br \/>Whenever I put my ear to the ground.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Songs of revelation and revolution<br \/>Rebirth and regeneration<br \/>I too am dust<br \/>Your poetry breathing life into me.<br \/><br \/>Earth<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>A million people in the streets of Hong Kong hear your songs<br \/>Umbrellas and heart<br \/>Verses bear spray and ballistic shields<br \/>Rubber bullets<br \/>And heavy riot sticks<br \/>For now their government listens<br \/>I mean<br \/>Could a million Chinese be wrong?<br \/><br \/>Trans activists reading the names of the fallen of their community <br \/>Telling their stories of hidden violence <br \/>Hear your songs.<br \/><br \/>Strike a pose for the Latinx who died on Rikers Island <br \/>Because she couldn&#8217;t raise $500 in bail money for a misdemeanor.<br \/>Her kindred also found dead on the streets of Texas<br \/>And beheaded on courthouse steps in Mexico.<br \/><br \/>Choiceless families of choice, don\u2019t forget them after Pride month.<br \/><br \/>Speak no evil?<br \/><br \/>Larry Kramer already told us that silence equals death<br \/>Don\u2019t forget how to act up. <br \/><br \/>It is good to go back to get what has been forgotten.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Names of kindred on heart shaped Stones <br \/>Left on Potter\u2019s Field on a New York island<br \/>Or sewn on blankets presented on the National protestors in Tennessee hear your songs <br \/>The heads of 24 policemen provided the percussion section<br \/>Another officer involved shooting.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Let the earth be my weapon before it becomes my womb<br \/>Let me be judged by twelve <br \/>Before I am carried out by six.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Water<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Thirsty people seeking asylum hear your songs<br \/>So do the the Samaritans on trial for leaving them water in the desert<br \/>Facing 20 years in prison for acts of federal felony compassion.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>For compassion\u2019s sake they chant \u201cNo More Death\u201d <br \/>A deadlocked jury still can\u2019t decide between the spirit of the law <br \/>And the laws letters.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The dying continues: <br \/>The body of a six year old girl from India is found in the desert.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>How did she get there?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>And, who have we become?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Japanese Americans say history is repeating itself. <br \/>Interment camps reopening <br \/>With the same justification<br \/>National insecurity.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Mr. Sulu, we are still a long way from the Starship Enterprise<br \/>Our four-year mission is just to get an Orange Man\u2019s foot <br \/>Out of America\u2019s assAnd to boldly get back to <br \/>Where we were before.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>It 1963<br \/>And lately Monks and nuns witnessing for Tibet<br \/>Middle Path adherents taking the belief in the impermanent <br \/>To an extreme <br \/>You only get to do that once!<br \/>Burn baby burn.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Air<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>I hold up this candle next to your sun, Gil.<br \/>All of the songs you sang still work.<br \/>Which means how we are living here in America doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Justice is blind still holding the scales of Libra.<br \/>But she is standing on an inclined plane <br \/>The pan that represents me and mine <br \/>Always the lighter of the two.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Once the question was:<br \/>Are there two separate and unequal justice systems in America?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Now the question is:<br \/>How many unequal Justice systems does America have?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Or, Is that just me being optimistic?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Avoiding the question<br \/>Is there a justice system at all?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Pardon my chagrin<br \/>Pardon my skepticism<br \/>Pardon me while I have to explain to young black men <br \/>That there is no pardon for playing with toy guns in a city parks.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Or selling loose cigarette to make ends meet.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Pardon me while I tell women that rape can be used as a tool of war Without an international outcry.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Or if I say Excusez-moi \u2014 will you think me more educated and therefore less of a target?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Na!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Camo-hiding Huxtable affectations do not work better then <br \/>A Kevlar vest<br \/>A helmet <br \/>And a good gas mask.<br \/>You could ask Sandra Bland <br \/>I mean, if she were alive.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Pardon me when I question that our answer to gun violenceis not reporting the shooter\u2019s name on the news.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Hear no evil.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Pardon me when no matter how hard we try to prevent copy cat killings The killing continues.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>I guess the non-copy cats must think they have come up with an amazingly original idea!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Pardon my invective.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Pardon my anger.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>And pardon me for taking a bite out of you, Gil <br \/>To write this poem<br \/>There are no new ideas <br \/>Just ideas that are well stolen <br \/>From the past that is prologue.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Or, call it Sankofa looking back as I fly forward through time.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>I feel so lost.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>I\u2019m just reaching back to help me on my journey forward.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>May justice stand on a firm foundation.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>May there be a level playing field to calibrate the scales of justice.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Take your thumb off of the scales<br \/>And keep your foot off of the earth\u2019s neck<br \/>So we can all breathe again.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Hear no evil.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Why do I forget what I should remember <br \/>And remember what I should forget?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Hermann Hesse said that if I listened to the blending of all the outcries <br \/>I would hear OM the word of words.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>I\u2019m not that good yet.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>But I can still hear you, Gil <br \/>In
